Trainee Train Driver - Hay Point Coal Terminal


BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is Australia's largest coal producer. As the world's largest seaborne coking coal supplier and part of the BHP Billiton group, BMA operates six mine sites and the Hay Point coal loading port in Central Queensland. The Hay Point Coal Terminal is one of Australia's largest and most efficient coal export facilities and blends and despatches up to 44 million tonnes of BMA coal per year.

BMA is currently offering the unique opportunity for Trainee Train Drivers to join the Rail Operations Team based at Hay Point Coal Terminal, Mackay. You will be trained and mentored by BMA's talented workforce who will support you in achieving your goals and will experience excellent working conditions with a focus on safety and quality.

The key responsibilities of our Drivers will be to work within safe work practices and to ensure the reliable delivery of coal from the BMA's mine sites to the Hay Point Terminal.

As a prerequisite for the role applicants must;

  • Hold an unrestricted  C Class drivers license
  • Have accomplished a minimum sound achievement in Year 10 Math's and English (or equivalent)

Successful applicants will demonstrate;

  • The ability and aptitude to maintain high safety standards, equipment serviceability, housekeeping and compliance within working procedures
  • Willingness and ability to work a dynamic shift roster
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Excellent fault finding and diagnostic skills
  • Motivation to broaden their own skills and experience
  • Interpersonal skills to enable positive interaction with personnel
  • Strong computer literacy including use of remote applications

Trade Qualification such as Electrical, Mechanical or Fixed Plant Fitting would be highly regarded, but is not essential.

You will achieve a nationally recognised qualification Certificate III Train Operations upon successful completion of your Traineeship.
