Blaster's Assistant (2 Positions - Misery Pit)

Reporting to the Team Leader – Surface Mining, the Assistant Blaster is responsible for assisting the designated Blaster with the safe, efficient and productive loading of blast holes within the surface mining operation. The incumbent performs all duties for this position in accordance with the Charter, Company Policies, Management Systems, and Standard Operating Procedures.
Demonstrate the ability to always work safe and report all hazards and unsafe working conditions to the Team Leader.
Under the direction of a qualified blaster; demonstrate the correct procedures for the safe handling of explosives.
Assist the designated blaster with the transfer of explosives to and from the surface magazines to the blast hole patterns.
Assist the designated blaster with blast pattern clean-up and removal of explosive storage boxes according to mine site policies and federal regulations.
Under the direction of a blaster assist with clearing personnel from blast areas and with guarding blast perimeter areas.
Under the direction of a qualified blaster; learn to maintain explosive magazine inventory control and assist the blaster with magazine audits to fulfill the requirements of the management of an explosive magazine in compliance with BHPB Global Initiatives, Provincial and Federal Laws.
• Qualified to work in a surface mining environment
• Class 5 driver license is required
• Previous blasting experience is a preferred asset

This position is based at the EKATI Diamond Mine and works 2 weeks on site followed by 2 weeks off. We offer an excellent compensation and comprehensive benefit program.
