Think Place BHP Billiton is developing plans to mine uranium from the Yeelirrie deposit, about 500 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie. Currently in the Selection phase, the Yeelirrie Project is seeking to establish an open-cut mine and ore processing plant, with a mining rate that would ramp up to produce about 80 tonnes per week of uranium oxide concentrate. Using its significant uranium mining experience from the South Australian Olympic Dam operations, BHP Billiton aims to design and build Western Australia’s first large scale uranium mine in the safest and most efficient manner. Think Opportunity We seek to appoint a Radiation or Occupational Hygiene professional into the Uranium Projects team who will implement the Radiation Protection function for the Yeelirrie project. This role provides platform for you to expand on your technical, operational as well as management skill. Think Purpose Reporting to the Sustainability Manager of the Project, with support from a network of industry professionals, you will be responsible for ensuring radiation issues associated with the Yeelirrie project are appropriately addressed. Focusing on monitoring and sampling of Radiation levels on site, you will be interacting with a vast array of people internally as well as liaison with appropriate regulatory agencies as required. As the Radiation expert for the Project, you will provide training on all aspects of radiation to project team members, contractors and consultants and work with other Uranium Customer Sector Group radiation specialists to improve your knowledge and technical expertise. This position is based in Perth and operates on a 5/2 roster. Frequent travel to the Yeelirrie site will be required. Think Requirements Tertiary qualifications in Science, Hygiene or a similar field plus experience and knowledge in the field of Radiation Protection are requirements for this position. Exposure to mining / mineral processing industries would be highly desired. You must be able to communicate effectively across multiple levels and departments. Success in this role will require your commitment to continuous improvement of Safety at Olympic Dam, sharing and promoting BHP Billiton’s goal of Zero Harm.
