BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the vast Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 130 Mtpa of iron ore.  The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation. Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the north west, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, experienced professional to take an important role within our Finance department. This is a hands-on role providing financial and commercial support, with a strong emphasis on analysis and reporting of operational and financial performance.

Position Synopsis

We seek a results-driven and exceptionally organised individual, with extensive costing experience, to focus their efforts on providing financial support and assistance to Iron Ore’s Port & Rail Support Services.
Your key responsibility will be to deliver financial support for designated operational areas including:

  • Coordinating month end accounting, analysis & Capital reporting; 
  • Preparing and consolidating capital budgets in conjunction with Department
  • Managers and General Managers;
  • Evaluating investment proposals based on productivity, cost/benefit (NPV) analysis,
  • Health and safety and compliance factors;
  • Working with operational areas to deliver business improvement initiatives; and
  • Ensuring compliance with BHPB Accounting policies and Accounting standards.

Skills and Experience

To be considered, you will have a CA/CPA qualification or be working towards it, preferably with resource industry experience in a financial/management accountant role. Your professional track record highlights your gift for careful analysis, thorough attention to detail, and process-oriented approach.  An ability to operate both autonomously and collaboratively within a close-knit team is essential. Previous site experience and exposure to large ERP accounting systems software experience (eg. SAP) would be an advantage. Exposure to the principles of Operating Excellence will also enhance your suitability. 

This is a residential role, based in Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.  Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the North West, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. The 15,000-strong population enjoys well-established education service, entertainment, sporting, shopping and medical facilities, and a strong sense of community.
