Maintenance Coordinator


BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the vast Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120 Mtpa of iron ore.  The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation. Position Synopsis

We seek a safety-conscious and motivated individual to undertake the challenging and rewarding position of Maintenance Coordinator within our Rail Workshops Engineering & Planning Department.

You will provide leadership and direction by coordinating a range of maintenance activities throughout the Rail Department, and promoting a high level of team interaction between the Rail Workshops and Rail Operations Departments.  This role will require review and analysis of data, as well as providing updates to key stakeholders.

The key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining a high profile in the promotion of safe working conditions and practices to ensure a safe working environment;
  • Collect/Audit train fault records and enter into Business Systems;
  • Coordinate downloads on assets to ensure accurate interrogations and analysis of faults;
  • Provide coaching on the quality of information supplied from Operations on the faults identified;
  • Liaise with key business partners to ensure timely delivery of assets to Railway Workshops;
  • Provide timely feedback to relevant departments on progress of fault resolution;
  • Review Condition Monitoring Reports; and
  • Auditing of the Reporting Process Flow in alignment with the department KPI’s.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will have either a mechanical or electrical trade qualification, with a minimum of five years post-trade experience in the mining or heavy industry sectors.  You will have a good working knowledge and understanding of condition monitoring techniques, and their application, along with the capability to interface with and influence leaders, maintenance practitioners and operators throughout the organisation, articulating complexity in simple terms.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications, a working knowledge of PC based planning systems & packages, and knowledge of SAP based Maintenance will be desired.  Your effective communication skills coupled with your ability to develop and maintain key relationships, is essential to your success in this role.

This is a residential role, based in Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.  Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the North West, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. The 15,000-strong population enjoys well-established education service, entertainment, sporting, shopping and medical facilities, and a strong sense of community.
