BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the vast Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120 Mtpa of iron ore.  The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation. Position Synopsis

The Ore Car Repair Shop is responsible for looking after the Structural, Mechanical and Machining of BHP Billiton’s extensive fleet of Ore Cars. To be successful in this role you must have a strong Supervisor background, in particular managing multiple trade disciplines in a production environment.

We are seeking a safety-conscious and motivated individual to undertake this challenging and rewarding position, operating within an established maintenance management system, where your key focus will be to promote a high level of team interaction and coordination.

This positions reports directly to the Superintendent Ore Car Repair Shop and is responsible for the day to day management of the department workshop, its employees and contractors. You will be accountable for ensuring work is carried out safely and to a high quality standard, as well as prioritising work to meet throughput targets.  You will be accountable for managing costs in accordance with the annual budget, whilst supporting the Iron Ore Productivity System and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will have a trade background and experience in heavy engineering. In addition, you will demonstrate computer literacy and front line supervision experience would be highly regarded, along with a willingness to learn.

Your track record testifies to your highly developed analytical and problem solving skills, and proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely. You will have excellent people management skills, with demonstrated experience in leading workgroups and contractors.

A working knowledge of PC based planning systems and packages such as SAP, coupled with experience in the mining or heavy industry sectors, will be well regarded.

Location

This is a residential role, based in Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.  Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the North West, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. The 15,000-strong population enjoys well-established education service, entertainment, sporting, shopping and medical facilities, and a strong sense of community.
