BHP Billiton Petroleum is a significant oil and gas explorer, and producer, with major producing assets in Australia, the United Kingdom, the Gulf of Mexico (US), Algeria, Pakistan and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Australian Production Unit (APU) manages the existing FPSO Stybarrow Venture (WA), the FPSO Pyrenees Venture (WA), the Dampier Supply Base (WA) and the Minerva Onshore Gas Plant (Vic).

A challenging opening exists for a results-driven engineering professional with strong interpersonal skills to join our Surface Engineering Group. Reporting to the Surface Engineering Manager Australia, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining the day-to-day operability of APU E&I-related facilities
  • Providing quality control and assurance to maintain asset integrity for E&I-related modifications and projects
  • Regular surveillance and reporting of E&I systems to intervene in potential issues, provide troubleshooting support and maintain a high level of safety and performance
  • Executing engineering investigations and design
  • Preparing project specific specifications and design basis documentation
  • Selecting and supervising contract engineers
  • Reviewing and approving engineering and maintenance change requests related to your technical discipline
  • Providing specialist engineering guidance and professional judgement in support of operations, maintenance and reliability projects

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will possess a tertiary degree in Electrical Engineering, coupled with proven experience in the design and operation of Electrical and Instrument systems and have significant previous upstream petroleum experience.

Experience in preparation, development and review of Project Design Basis, engineering design, construction and commissioning methodology, maintenance strategy documentation, cost estimation, and project scheduling is a key requirement for this role.

You will also have demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, quality written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
