Occupational Hygiene Analyst

Located in northwest Queensland, our operation boasts an underground mine and processing mill situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville, and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. BHP Billiton Cannington Mine has a dedicated Health & Safety team responsible for high level coaching, mentoring, professional service and support to all Cannington operational areas.

We now have the opportunity for a suitably experienced Occupational Hygiene Analyst to join our site based team. Working closely with the Health team and interacting with Operational Supervisors on a regular basis, you will be responsible for:

•  Quantifying or monitoring occupational hygiene, including airborne contaminant, underground and indoor air quality, noise exposure, lighting, Respirable fibres, Vibration, Radiation, and others from time to time;

•  Conduct investigations of personnel or teams with high direct exposure or elevated Biological Exposure Indices (BEI);

•  Management and maintenance of Hygiene monthly statistics;

•  Contributing data and analysis (including providing commentary on findings) to the preparation of reports;

•  Assisting in the Identification of methodologies, or creating an innovative solution to occupational hygiene issues;

•  Coordinate and evaluate the effectiveness of exposure reduction programs for Cannington; and,

•  Periodic monitoring of the Potable and Processed water systems including reporting analysis results for compliance.


To be successful in this position, you will have Tertiary qualifications Occupational Hygiene combined with current, or eligibility for, membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists. Your demonstrated experience in assessing compliance in industrial health and hygiene systems will be essential, along with a proven ability to implement and monitor occupational hygiene programs and plans in a mining or heavy industrial environment.

You will be action orientated with a commitment to customer service and delivery of projects to deadlines. You will encourage an open, candid and trusting work environment with respectful but honest participation and feedback. Excellent communication skills will be necessary to encourage collaboration and combined vision from your fellow team members and key stakeholders while presenting advice based upon complex analyses.


The successful applicant can look forward to an attractive salary and benefits package. This role is based at Cannington Mine on a FIFO roster from Townsville. A relocation package to Townsville may be discussed with the successful applicant.
