BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is a highly successful coal miner and exporter - the biggest in Australia and the largest supplier of seaborne coking coal on the planet. We use cutting-edge technology and environmentally responsible methods to develop and run our coal mining operations throughout Central Queensland. We are the largest employer in Central Queensland, employing over 7200 people at 8 different mine sites and a coal loading port. BMA also provides strong support for the communities close to their mining operations.

What’s the deal?

BMA offers scholarships to students who are current tertiary students and students who are studying Year 12 in 2009 or who were in year 12 in 2008 and have deferred entry to tertiary study for 12 months may apply for the scholarships. Applicants must apply for entry to study full time undergraduate degree courses in 2010 in one of the nine categories related to mining, at any Queensland University, University of Wollongong, University of NSW or University of Newcastle.

•  Environmental Science

•  Geology (or equivalent)

•  Spatial Science/Surveying

Our scholarship students get a total of $8500 a year for a 3 or 4 year full-time degree if they make good progress in their course of study. And if you do well in your subjects, you will get paid vacation employment at one of BMA’s mining operations or coal-loading port. Industry experience is so important in today’s mining industry and the chance to be mentored and supported throughout your University career (and beyond) is a great opportunity!
