About the role

BHP Billiton is a leading global resources company. Our Minerals Australia Business includes operations in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia, focusing on iron ore, copper, metallurgical and energy coal and nickel.

The Specialist Compliance is accountable for providing operational support, ensuring the verification of equipment and process compliance in the management of our on-site contracting partners. This involves knowledge sharing with site teams, monitoring the asset management systems and performance of drilling, earthmoving, geophysical and ancillary equipment.

Committed to spending the majority of your time in the field, you will be communicating business needs and priorities to our on-site contracting partners, highlighting areas for safety and efficiency improvements, whilst working together to implement best practice strategies.

The role is available on an on an 8:6 roster as either FIFO or residentially based at Newman. 

Reporting to the Superintendent Compliance within the Minerals Australia Geoscience & Exploration team, your core accountabilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide operational support to site teams through coaching and mentoring;
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with contracting partners;
  • Monitor equipment asset management systems to ensure maximum potential is reached in a safe working environment;
  • Conduct regular internal audits against key performing indicators and standards for contracting partners;
  • Establishing, maintaining and improving standards by ensuring leading best practice;
  • Monitoring Geoscience contractors to ensure they are complying with a safe system of work and following the principles of any current standards certifications;
  • Assist in the effective mobilisation of contractors and equipment in accordance to the Contractor Management Framework;
  • Initiate discussions with the relevant stakeholders regarding introducing new technologies to improve safety, production and efficiencies;
  • Assisting in managing the exploration equipment registers and inspection/audit documentation as required; and
  • Reviewing and improving contractor performance through regular contractor communications and assisting with contract upgrades.

About You

As the successful applicant you will be self-motivated and able to work independently; you work well under pressure bringing a high attention to detail and the consistent ability to meet multiple deadlines.  We value diversity in experience and whilst no specific qualifications are a prerequisite, a strong safety background and / or a mechanical / technical background are essential for the position.

Your technical strengths will be complemented by excellent communication skills.  Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well with people, communicating confidently and building strong working relationships with key stakeholders.

A current equivalent Western Australian Driver’s Licence is a requirement of this role.

Location:

With this role you have the choice of either or fly-in fly-out from Perth to the Newman Area on a 8:6 roster or being residentially based in Newman. The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities.  As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes.
