BHP Iron Ore is one of the world’s leading suppliers of iron ore. The Company’s operations currently involve an integrated system of seven inland mines, more than 1,000 kilometres of rail and two separate port facilities; Nelson Point and Finucane Island at Port Hedland.

We are seeking diverse and talented 1st year applications for our 2018 Apprenticeship Program. For commencement in early 2018, we are offering a number of Residential and Fly-In-Fly-Out opportunities across our Pilbara Operations in Western Australia.

Position
This is an outstanding residential opportunity within our local Port Hedland community, for school leavers and mature aged candidates to develop a dynamic and fulfilling career. The program is delivered to develop cultured, engaged, highly skilled and work ready apprentices to the business, via structured practical and theoretical training competencies.

For commencement in early 2018, our 1st year Apprenticeship opportunities in Port Hedland include:

• Electrical (Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician); and
• Mechanical Fitter (Certificate III in Engineering –Mechanical Trade).

Eligibility Criteria

Essential:
• Identify as a 1st year Apprentice in your chosen field. Existing ‘Metals” based Trade Qualifications unable to be considered;
• All residential applications must be residents of the Port Hedland region. No relocation opportunities available;
• A high commitment to safety, quality and attention to detail and procedures;
• Demonstrated interest in the selected trade through work experience or hobby / interests.
• A commitment to self-development; and
• A desire to learn a range of new skills associated with the trade and
• Hold a current, valid Australian ‘Learners’ Drivers Licence. A full ‘C’ class Manual DVL essential prior to completing apprenticeship.

Desirable:
• Completion of a relevant pre-apprenticeship program or a Certificate II qualification.

Location
Apprentices will undertake full time site readiness training in Port Hedland, facilitated by BHP Iron Ore Apprentice Master before transiting transitioning to our Port & Rail operations. TAFE training depending on trade, will occur in the Pilbara Region or Perth.
