Position

Reporting to the Manager Mining Geology your duties will include:

  • Foster a positive team culture and actively demonstrate principles of inclusiveness and diversity including flexible work
  • Participate within the Mining Geology function to develop business plans consistent with site strategies/ plans and implement within Mining Geology team
  • Lead, coach and mentor team members to ensure timely and accurate delivery against performance targets; Anticipate and eliminate potential delays through planning and coordination of resources
  • Set and clearly communicate targets aligned with site, Mining Geology function goals and BHPBIO values
  • Provide input into the production plan in consultation with the Production and Resource Engineering functions
  • Assist in preparing the 2-year Budget and 5-year Plan forecasts
  • Collaborate with the team for the 3-month and 2-year risk to plan delivery (e.g. indicated and inferred resources and resource reconciliation risk)
  • Oversee the ore reserve F1, F1.5 and F2 reconciliation process
  • Input to the Short Term Grade Control Model (STGM) process including structural mapping and interpretation
  • Implementation of the grade control and blasthole sampling program (and support the implementation of RC grade control drilling programs)
  • Completion and oversight on ore Sterilisation activities
  • Ensure the correct upload and integrity of all Production data (planned and actual) in 1SAP
  • Formulate feasible production budgets, forecasts and schedules for Mining Geology that account for HSEC, volume and cost requirements
  • Assist with the creation of function budget & regularly monitor area expenditure
  • Monitor all contractor work activities to ensure efficient and cost effective use of resources

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience and experience working in a large scale open pit mining operation is essential
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role and in making decisions that directly impact their own team
  • Previous responsibility for budgets at a work team level is essential
  • Relevant experience with reverse circulation, diamond, hydrogeological drilling methods is preferred
  • Exposure in the following non-core geology activities (Geotechnical / Dewatering / Hydrogeology and Environmental Management Systems) is advantageous
  • Experience in QA/QC related to geological data approval is highly preferable
  • Competent in geological interpretation and an understanding of iron ore geology and geological modelling,
  • Sound competency in Open Pit CAD and 3D mine planning software such as Vulcan and ArcGIS
  • Minimum of C class manual drivers licence

Location

You will be based at our new ‘Jimblebar’ mine site on a fly-in fly-out 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off roster. Jimblebar is the first Greenfield mine in over 40 years to be both developed and operated by BHP Billiton Iron Ore and is located 40kms North East of Newman, Western Australia.  The outstanding facilities at the brand new FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, golf driving nets, outdoor cinema, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court; beach volleyball court, games room and TV lounge. All rooms at the village have access to 3G wireless internet and Skype, an ensuite bathroom, flat screen television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
