About the role

Corporate Affairs is responsible for establishing and driving the strategy to protect and enhance BHP Billiton's reputation. Our team does this through establishing mutually beneficial internal and external relationships. Corporate Affairs delivers value and manages risk by securing the understanding and support of key stakeholders.

As a member of the Sustainability & Public Policy team this role will support and develop UK and Europe Corporate Affairs and the execution of corporate affairs and policy development, as part of a wider global team.  

In this role you will:

  • Proactively identify and monitor UK and European Government public policy developments that have the potential to impact BHPB operations and reputation

  • Develop advocacy and policy responses to support public policy outcomes

  • Oversee and facilitate engagement with government officials and prepare briefing materials as required

  • Provide input and contribute expertise as required to the development and execution of a government relations plan to deliver on the Business 5 Year Plan

  • Lead the implementation and monitor effectiveness of improvement initiatives of the sub-function with support from functional A&I team

  • Co-ordinate, facilitate and maintain effective relationships with and influence upon relevant industry associations

  • Collate input and contribute to the development of UK and international policy submissions

    About you

You will have significant experience in corporate affairs, and in particular public policy, ideally from within a large corporation and / or experience of policy making in government either in the UK or the wider EU. You will have an understanding of and deep interest in the UK and European current political and policy landscape, and global affairs generally.  You have a sophisticated take on public policy and a track record of writing and developing public policy submissions. Strong and demonstrable internal and external  stakeholder management skills are key to this role to achieve positive outcomes . Ideally you will have an existing network of contacts in the EU and UK policy community.

You will be an analytical thinker who works collaboratively to resolve issues as well as strong writing experience and ability. You will have strong project management skills and a proven ability to successfully create and implement strategic stakeholder engagement plans within a visible and well-regarded organisation. Strong understanding of the industry and complex policy and regulatory issues and the ability to acquire knowledge quickly as are fundamental to this role You will have the ability to initiate, drive and implement your own work load.

European languages are an advantage.
